Passion Lippi - Sophie Chauveau

Comment: If art and literature have always been associated Passion Lippi is a novel that beautifully sublime this report. Italy plunged into the early 15th century, the reader share in the footsteps of Filippino Lippi. This unusual painter, characterized by his boundless love for women and its independence from the bottle should feel vice to produce genius. Drawing inspiration from his clandestine love affairs, our artist sinks into an uncontrollable self-destruction, which there is impotent. And yet, we love this character: how not to get attached to this thug whose fiery brush turns into Madonnas and whores and nuns in Mary?

whole life Lippi as told by Sophie Chauveau moved me with a big E. The way the author recreated the Florentine atmosphere prevailing at the time is simply fascinating. The excitement boiling in artisan workshops, through the settlement of accounts of " up" with this crazy epic the Medici family, novel offers a fascinating journey into the world of the great masters of Italian Renaissance . I liked this book for its beautiful cast of characters, its grandiose scenery, its romantic twists. Sophie Chauveau resurrect a period elegance with artistic milestone in the history of art. This novel is also the first of a trilogy on the painting of the Renaissance . Followed by Botticelli's Dream and The Obsession Vinci, this biopic of the pretext is an ode to art and a tribute women. After reading the last page of Passion Lippi was one desire: to read the following volumes ...

The last day of a condemned - Victor Hugo

Presentation Editor:
" Farewell hope, roses farewell, farewell
nature and wind;
all n ' is more to me.
And Mary, my poor girl!
Who love you now?
My heart bleeds all my rage ... "

Who speaks?" A man like all others, in expectation of death. Out in the pale light of morning, the guillotine casts its shadow on the pavement. In some hours, this man will be executed. His crime? He said nothing. Time is short. On paper he has left, he still casts his fears and anxieties, remembers the happiness away ... Hope it? Keep the strength to stand.

"What I write may one day be useful to others, it stops the judge ready to judge, it saves unfortunate innocent or guilty, the agony with which I am condemned. .. "

Comment: What thoughts can therefore live the spirit of a man condemned to death? This is a question which attempts to answer Victor Hugo in this short novel. With his pen legendary leader of the Romantic movement lends his voice to a future victim of the guillotine . Innocent or guilty, whatever, this supreme award which Hugo has seen repeatedly, is unacceptable. Real plea against capital punishment, this novel, first published in 1829, accused the justice system unfair and a failed religion. At the time, Victor Hugo defends his controversial novel in portraying him as an "argument general and permanent for all defendants " . To learn more, take a look at this Wikipedia .

Although it addresses a question fondammentale, this novel does not mark me more than that: I was expecting a more powerful text. I was disappointed because I did not find the usual verve the author. There are still a few notable passages punctuated jargon words then, but nothing that suggests to my mind, a major text. Some criticize the novel not to mention the causes of the narrator's conviction but personally I was not disturbed. After all, they are not crimes of which he is talking about but the death penalty. For the curious, you can always make your own mind by reading the full version in PDF . Note that this PDF version proposed by ebooksgratuits.org includes an interesting foreword by Victor Hugo.

Excerpts: "Sentenced to death!
Well, why not? Men, I remember having read in I do not know what book where there was only that good men are all condemned to death with reprieve undefined. Qu'ya so he changed me? "P.16

" They m'aprennent talking slang to rouscailler horning as they say. C'est toute une langue entée sur la langue générale comme une espèce de d'excroissance hideuse, comme une verrue. Sometimes a singular energy, a picturesque scary: there's resin in the Trimar (Blood on the path), the widow (being hanged), as if the rope of the gallows was the widow of all hanged. The head of a thief has two names: the Sorbonne when she meditates, thinks and advises the crime of cum when the hangman cut. Sometimes the spirit of vaudeville: a cashmere wicker (a hood rag), the liar (the language), and then everywhere at every moment, strange words, mysterious, ugly and sordid, coming from who knows where: the jail (the executioner), the cone (death), the closet (the place of execution). "p.18-19

" I feel my heart full of rage and bitterness. I think the pocket gall burst. Death makes wicked. "P.62

Killing time - Nimzovitsch - Publishing the Shade Lord

Presentation editions: Here's a novel you will not find as Editions L'Abat-Jour. And for good reason: these editions have opened their website on October 21 and Killing time is their first publication. The publisher distributes her own works only through its site. His ambition is to gather commaunauté readers outside readings that can be found in bookstores supermarkets or in the book. With a special attachment for unknown authors offering new novels or insolent and audacious.

Also note that the publisher made an appeal to texts of future publications. Perhaps you are hiding among authors unknown?

Comment: Contacted by the publishers to offer a ticket, I was really taken aback by the story of Mary, the girl's destiny more than ordinary. Yet that is where this fiction draws its power: the French teacher whose three daughters occupy the days sadly, is a serial killer of the most despicable. At least that's what the books suggest where Mary set the murders he has committed to kill his boredom. Steeped in nihilism, hallucinations and morbid cynicism, his texts are the product of a delusional mind. This killer-like meek hides untold secrets that we book throughout his writings. Signing his murder by planting incipits according to his mood, our deadly poisonous and acerbic pen deceive the world and sow doubt. It horrified me because his confidence is a violent unprecedented and frightening realism. Fiction or reality, Cecilia, the daughter of Mary, will try to discover the truth ...

Nimzovitch , the anonymous author of this fiction, we offer a subversive text that frankly upsets all conventions. But let there be no mistake: we find nothing vulgar, provocative or silly deconstructed. The style is gorgeous. The images evoke. It verges on prose ... macabre. In this, the Editions de l'Abat-Jour for this first publication, largely succeeded in their challenge. The conformism which she wants spokesman here is expressed at the highest level and even if we According to this reading gutted uncomfortable or unsettled, it is still curious about his next releases. Small flat anyway: the novel is long and although many descriptions written in a lively style, sometimes hinder the flow of the narrative.

In any case, I highly recommend this reading although it is not to put in the hands of unsuspecting readers . To get an idea, feel free to come and read the first 26 pages of the novel in PDF format .

Excerpts: "Memory is not the truth. Consciousness is not the truth. The real is not truth. What we perceive is only one fragment, interpreted too few human consequences, but we can estimate the full beam of the causes, factors and opportunities. It is impossible to solve an equation by not seeing the result. We are poor mathematicians. We are blind scholars claiming dissect and analyze the world with a microscope, cut into strips moistened billion a droplet of colored water. We see nothing. We do not see. " p.88

" The world is a novel, it is the opinion of all novelists. I guess the carpenters saw it as a piece of wood and the whores like an STD. "P.112

" Death is the last bulwark against boredom. " p.123

"They say that hope is for life, this may be true, I do not care: what is certain is that it does not exist. Anger, yes. "P.138

" The people always feel guilty, it's a way to maintain their ego. "p.169

List incipits novels seeded at the discretion of the murders of Mary finally I can not resist the temptation to list the many fictional references including Killing time is full. I apparently have the same tastes in reading that Mary since I read most of the novels discussed. This list not only provides comprehensive securities mentioned I have already read. I also wonder what criteria the author chose these books (Decidedly, this has everything to Nimzovitch arouse my curiosity!).
  • Moby Dick
  • Hundred Years of Solitude
  • Illuminations
  • Nausea
  • Salammbo
  • Complete Works of Lovecraft
  • The Minutes
  • foreigner
  • A countdown
  • Death on
  • A Confederacy of Dunces
  • Thus Spake Zarathustra
  • Songs of Maldoror

Comment: London, 1945. Tiny, Peggy and Seth are a trio of burglars most singular. Escaped from a circus after a bombing, the man who was not growing, the lion tamer and the man cannon survive by committing robberies under the pseudonym Conan Lord. Until one day, asked for a dark matter, they discover the mystery of the house Shelton charged to retrieve a mysterious supposed to contain the table name killer who murdered seven servants of the house, the trio embarks on a mission of the darkest and dangerous. Why the victims, all beheaded, were they subject to staged as scabrous? Who is the silent Chi, who painted the picture? The hostess Shelton and her son are they raving mad? Who is Shieldrake, the new husband of Irina obsessive Shelton?

Ghosts, murder, passion, madness, terror, riddles, nothing the reader is spared. Brussolo plant here a most disturbing scene. With her talent there is no need to recall, the author proposes Conan Lord, a colorful novel. The recipe is immutable: the psychology of the characters complex, perfectly suitable for a context, puzzles insolvent, all the ingredients of a good thriller are there and it's a masterfully Brussolo that takes its readers on their toes. No downtime or boondoggles: the plot is perfectly tied and I was not able to suspend my reading. I needed to know. In short, you'll understand: this is a reading that I enhousiasmée. It was a long time since I had dabbled in Brussolo pen and I left with great pleasure. So fans of the genre, I have only one advice: go for it! You will not be disappointed!
